Abm11 Piano Chord

A dark, deep sound. Popular in jazz and neo-soul. Unlike the major 11th, the (minor) third is far enough from the eleventh that it doesn't need to be omitted.

Piano

Recommended voicing
Left hand Ab2 · Gb3 fingers 5–1
Right hand Db4 · Bb4 · Cb5 fingers 1–4–5

How to play the Abm11 chord on piano

Split the recommended voicing between the hands: play Ab2 and Gb3 with the left hand and Db4, Bb4 and Cb5 with the right. Suggested fingering is 5–1 on the left and 1–4–5 on the right (1 is the thumb). The perfect fifth Eb can usually be omitted from an extended chord, keeping the sound clear and the voicing manageable.
