Those Were The Days
Mary Hopkin
HmOnce upon a time there was a tavern,
where we used to raise a glass or Emtwo.
Remember how we laughed away the Hmhours,
and C#7dreamed of all the great things we would F#do.
Those were the Hmdays, my friend,
we thought they'd Emnever end,
we'd sing and Adance for A7ever and a Dday;
We'd live the Emlife we choose,
we'd fight and Hmnever lose,
For we were F#7young, and sure to have our Hmway.
La la la la la la la la la Emla la la
Those were the F#7days, oh yes those were the Hmdays.
G#mThen the busy years went rushing by us.
G#7We lost our starry G#notions on the C#mway.
If by chance I'd see you in the G#mtavern,
we'd smiled at one another, and we'd say:
G#mJust tonight I stood before the tavern.
G#7Nothing seemed the G#way it used to C#mbe.
In the glass I saw a strange G#mreflection,
A#was that lonely woman really D#7me?
G#mThrough the door there came familiar laughter.
G#7I saw your face and G#heard you call my C#mname.
Oh, my friend, we're older, but no G#mwiser.
For A#in our hearts the dreams are still the D#7same.
